GI is a name or sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. In addition, the qualities, characteristics, or reputation of the product should be essentially due to the place of origin. GI-TRIPS started in 2020 on the concept of sustainable tourism. The main vision is to make people travel for GI-Tagged products that exploring the diverse geographies in India with rich culture, heritage, and food. What are Geographical Indications?
A geographical indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. In order to function as a GI, a sign must identify a product as originating in a given place. In addition, the qualities, characteristics, or reputation of the product should be essentially due to the place of origin. Since the qualities depend on the geographical place of production, there is a clear link between the product and its original place of production.
A tourism destination may be a physical space with or without administrative and or systematic boundaries during which a visitor can spend overnight. It is the cluster of products and services and of events and experiences along the tourism value chain. A destination incorporates various stakeholders and may network to make larger destinations. It is also intangible with its image and identity which can influence its market competitiveness. Support activities involve transport and infrastructure, human resource development, technology and systems development, and other complementary goods and services which may not be related to core business but have a high impact on the value chain of tourism
